Wonders
are not likely to
end soon. Things we read these days on the pages of our newspapers melt our
hearts. According to a report by Vanguard, A Chief
magistrate’s court setting in Lagos, yesterday June 12th, remanded a 41 year-old
man who goes by the name, Yusuf Akinbiyi; at the Ikoyi Prisons for allegedly
killing his own father, Agboola Akinbiyi, aged 86; over a piece of land. Rolling
my eyes! As in? How may we explain this madness? Your killed your biological
father over a piece of land? Shaking my head!
The report
continues that the accused, who resides in Lagos is facing a one‑count charge
of murder; and the Magistrate, Miss A.O. Komolafe, ordered that he be remanded
in prison custody pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public
Prosecutions; and didn’t take the plea of the accused.....
According to the
prosecutor, Inspector Frank Inah, the crime was committed on May 21 at about
11.05 p.m. at the deceased’s residence. Inspector Inah alleged that the
deceased and the accused lived together, adding that the deceased had provided
for the accused as he was jobless.
In his words: “The
accused wanted to sell his father’s land to enable him travel out of the
country, but his father held on to the documents. The accused and the deceased
had an argument during which the accused beat the deceased with his hands and
covered his mouth and nostrils with pillow”. Oh wow!
He continued that such
an attack made the accused to suffocate to death, adding that the accused was
later arrested by the Police. The body of the deceased, the prosecutor said had
been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital mortuary for
