“To My Defiled Sisters” – Temilolu Okeowo

A very interesting write-up I culled from PUNCH; which tries to address some difficulties females undergo in our society and find it hard to open up due to the nature and character of the Nigerian society.
I will advise all, especially the ladies to read it till the end. So inspiring and encouraging!
Find it after the cut….

Dear Nigerians, I’m most delighted to be in touch with you again. You’d recall I discussed one of the tips of maintaining chastity last weekend and so would continue with that today. However, I got a particular text message which touched my heart as it aptly describes the situation of so many girls out there. And I tell you, a lot of them never get to tell anyone because of the fear of causing a family feud and also endangering their lives. And this just further convinces me that a lot of girls never meant to be wayward. Some just got rebellious due to lack of love, harshness and betrayal of trust by those meant to look after them while some other girls crave for warmth in the hands of boys/men who just take advantage of their vulnerability. But I’m so glad that the spirit behind the tip, Acquaint yourself with God, transformed the lives of a good number of girls.
Dear Aunty Temi,
I was raped by my uncle- my dad’s brother when I was a little girl but my parents don’t know till today because I didn’t tell them. I grew up having compulsory sex with him every day. It stopped when I got to J.S.S. 2 but since then I have always been having sex with different guys but I desperately want to stop now!
I need your encouragement. I always promise God not to do it again but I keep doing it. Most guys I meet only want to have sex with me but they’ll promise me heaven and earth and I’ll succumb to their pressures. I end up being used and dumped. I’m fed up aunty because it has only caused me pain and confusion over and over again, such that I don’t even think I’m my real self.
I despise my uncle and men and I don’t have any stable relationship anymore because I now get easily irritated by men. But I love Jesus and it pains me that I hurt him. I want to change aunty Temi and make Jesus happy. I love your article and I’m really blessed by it as it has affected my whole being. Thank you. I love you. God bless you.
Fehintola, 24
To all the Fehintolas out there who were defiled and whose lives are utterly perverted, I want you to know that no matter how disgusted you feel about yourselves, you could still turn out the priceless gem you were created to be. Or you don’t think so? No matter your terrible past, reputation and the derogatory names you’ve been labelled, you can re-write the story of your life. It’s all up to you. All you need is some mental renovation so you can write a beautiful script of what you deserve from life and fight for it with all your might. We’ll get to that soon.
My sweeties, no one owes us happiness and the fantastic life we deserve, we owe ourselves the very best of life and we must work towards it. Now I see so many girls that life has been cruel to, pushing them around black pits of despair, suddenly come out shining like the sun out of a clear azure sky!
The Girls Club of Nigeria is aimed at influencing a positive change in the female folk. While we cannot turn back the hands of time in the lives of girls who have followed the ruinous path, we are committed to encouraging them to change their ways and recover their glorious virtues and at the same time do all we can to paralyse the spirit behind this madness of the flesh. If this generation can make amends, the next generation will come out clean. Don’t you think so? I love you all and I think you are all wonderful sisters!
Dear girls,
As designed by God, your virginity is the bedrock of your destiny. It is your spiritual beauty. It carries the star, potential and talent which God created with you to make you unique. It is the star in your sky. Please don’t pollute your destiny. The world is waiting for your star to shine! Your curiosity about sex and the way your body feels is normal. However, there’s so much you need to know which may eventually condition your mind and calm your desires. For now, DON’T dabble into it please.

To be continued.
