Battle
for the throne…
A nice article written by erudite scholar and public affairs analyst Paul
Asiebu, (a core Jonathanian) on why he’s a big fan of the incumbent President
Goodluck Ebere Jonathan… Enjoy it after the cut…
• President Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan is a democrat, properly educated, an ardent believer of the rule of
law, a good man, a President for all commoners, an accommodating personality.
• An intellectual who has served
Nigeria consistently in various capacities before assuming office at the
highest level in Nigeria and will continue to uphold the positive values of
Nigeria by good governance.
• A gender friendly leader who
believes in practical affirmative action, freedom of Press/Speech who
accommodates all shades of opinion.
• God-fearing, a disciple of
fairness and equity; and advocate and proponent of free and fair elections.
Little wonder he provided INEC with all they need to conduct this year's
elections.
• President Jonathan has love for
Education; he established nine federal universities across the country in
states, which previously had no federal degree awarding institutions and
established schools for the Almajiri kids who were hitherto street beggars.
• Even critics and opposition
parties are attest that President Jonathan is the best we have had in Nigeria,
when compared to others before him as recently emphasized by Prof. Wole
Soyinka.
• His transformation agenda has
transversed the entire spectrum and sectors of Nigeria life including power
sector, education, agriculture, road maintenance, rehabilitation and
re-construction throughout the six-geo-political zones of Nigeria; aviation,
health, oil and gas sector, etc.
• In the South-East geo-political
zone, the president magnanimously appointed an Abia man as chief of Army staff,
Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, minister of
labour and productivity. He gave the south east the second Niger Bridge (now
under construction), the Akanu Ibiam International airport, which supports
Easterners in international and national commerce.
• Jonathan’s administration
historically transformed Nigeria economy as it rebased it’s GDP for the first
time in over a decade to become the largest economy in Africa, overtaking South
Africa and Egypt in the process.
Under his watch he made
tremendous and historical breakthroughs in Health (eradication of polio
meningitis in Nigeria), establishment of universities and unique provision of
sustainable education platforms for Almajiris – 115 Almajiri schools,
historical agricultural milestone developments – especially in reducing
Nigeria’s food imports by over 40% as at 2013, moving the country closer to
self sufficiency in agriculture.
• Revival of the dead automotive
industry in Nigeria. Global auto giants like Peugeot, Nissan and Hyundai now
either assemble or wholly manufacture small cars, Sport Utility Vehicles,
trucks and buses at various locations in Nigeria. In addition to that, Innoson
Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM), Nigeria’s flagship indigenous automaker
and an easterner, has begun the sale of their first made-in-Nigeria cars and
SUVs in August 2014 – a turnaround that needs GEJ re-election to be sustained.
The Omotosho power plant in Ondo
State (South West Nigeria), Gbarain Power Plant (Bayelsa State) and Zamfara
hydropower plant, Alaoji Power Plant Abia State have been completed and some already
operational. The Kano hydropower plant would be completed this year (2015).
My fellow Nigerians, change
doesn't come overnight; the change we seek had already started since 2011, why
not support this true agent of change to transform our dear country.
