Gisty’s Diary! “My Undergraduate Days in Uniport & The Monster called Sleeping”

Yah! I am here again with another gist, interesting or boring (whatever), from my diary. Last time, I discussed with you guys my first ever ‘blind date’ experience, and how it went blablabla. Lol! Anyway, it may interest you to know that the lady and I, are still mutual friends and nothing more, I could go further…Lol! Guess you guys enjoyed the gist? Many sent me messages after reading the article, telling me their own blind date experiences; and many said they are planning to do so soonest. Am waiting…
However, this week, am not gonna talk about dating, sex, romance, love or things like that; am goona teach my readers especially students; tips to stay awake while reading. Sure, am in the best position to handle this issue because am not just a blogger, am equally a classroom teacher with some years of experience in the teaching profession. Lol! Nwa Teacher!!!

My undergraduates days at Uniport was just funny, (in Phyno’s voice), I, Chiggy and other of my friends did many funny things and am sure gonna unveil them one after the other. Just stay connected. Yah! I battled this idiot called ‘excessive sleep’; tirelessly those days in Uniport because I was determined to graduate with ‘First Class’ in my department. So, I took coffee, bulletin, Kolanut and did many other funny things just to conquer that monster called sleep, but it wasn’t easy…lol! But I tried sha…
Again, as a teacher, my personal interaction with many students have shown that many of them are still battling the same sleeping monster in their day and night readings. So dear readers, below are some tips to stay awake, active and engaged while reading.
TIP 1:
Inculcate a Reading Habit: Yah! It’s best for a learner to inculcate reading as a habit, a hubby and an academic exercise; instead of a punishment. Primarily, we read books to acquire knowledge and not just to pass exam. Reading is not a punishment; it’s like a recreational exercise which every students must indulge in; in order to excel in their academic endeavour.
No doubt, any student who understands reading as a fun filled activity; may not need to battle sleep like me while reading. At first, I misunderstood reading as a necessary but tedious process of coming out in flying colours during the exams. Little did I know that reading ought to be a fun filled part of life and a relaxation process? Little wonder again, it didn’t allow me the luxury of success needed.
Now, have you ever asked yourself, does anyone sleep while watching an interesting movie? The answer is a big No! The reason is very simple. You can’t dump an interesting movie just to go to bed, when you know that all your senses are connected to the movie.
Therefore, for a student to achieve his/her academic motives, the student must embrace reading as a part of life which is sweet, fun filled and joyous.
To be continued…
