I once wrote a well publicized
article 'Rivers State Judicial crisis and the tyranny of a progressive'. In
that article, I lampooned the acclaimed 'Lion of Ubima' for his deliberate
disregard for the rule of law which led to the grounding of courts for over one
year.
Another of Amechi's excesses and
act of impunity was the hurriedly conducted local government election weeks
before the winding up of his administration in complete disregard to a court
injunction mandating the RSIEC not to hold the election.
Expectedly, the court has sacked
the LG Chairmen. Even if they seek redress in a higher court, I have no doubt
that today's decision will be upheld....
I have never hidden my preference
for the APC but my aversion for impunity is also an open secret. The Local
Government Chairmen should blame themselves for taking the bait to be a
landmine for the present administration.
Meanwhile the bomb blast that
went off in the court premises should be investigated and the culprits should
be punished severely.
Change has come and impunity
should belong to the past.
