The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has again lost his bid to nullify the sitting of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja.
The highest court in the Nigeria, Supreme Court this morning laid to rest the bid by the Governor to declare the sitting of the Tribunal in Abuja as being against the law.
The court said the President of the Court of Appeal acted in accordnace with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It also added that the relocation of the tribunal to Abuja was to safeguard the lives of the tribunal chairman and members.
It will be recalled that the Governor whose election was nullified on Saturday by the Ambrosa M, led three man tribunal, had approached the apex court to challenge the sitting of the tribunal in Abuja instead of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The court affirmed the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which had earlier okayed the decision of the Tribunal to assume jurisdiction.
