When TO give up HEELS

A woman heels is trendy, chic, confident and phenomenal. She walks into the room and heads turn. She knows what she wants and gets it. High heels, according to research boost confidence. But as she grows older, it becomes somewhat of a problem to wear heels given her physical deterioration with age. There’s never really a time to give up heels, but, learning the trick to wearing heels will help maintain that chic and confident person she has always been.

KNOW YOUR FOOT TYPE
The best way to know your foot is to visit a podiatrist. But another technique is by wetting a construction paper and making an impression, this will show you how much your feet are flattening or how high an arch you have. This will determine your foot type.

WEAR THE RIGHT SIZE OF SHOES
A large number of women wear the wrong shoe sizes. The fact is over the years, your feet size changes. For women giving birth and even adding weight affect this as well. So, it’s advisable to have the feet measured when buying shoes to determine the width and length as well

THE THICKER THE HEEL THE BETTER
As much as we love the stilettos, when one gets older, it’s best to ditch them to avoid complications to the knees and feet; instead opt for thicker heels like the box heels or wedges.

KNOW WHAT KIND OF SHOES TO WEAR OUT
Wearing heels everyday and everywhere may hurt your feet, knees and even your back. Knowing what kind of shoes to wear out can go a long way to allowing you wear heels for longer. So for shopping trips or parties opt for low heels of average length of about 1.5 inches or shorter. For weddings for a dinner date, and so on, heels of about medium height say 1.5 to 3.5 inches work well. But, if you must for fashion’s sake, wear heels of 3.5 inches or taller, try to stand in them for no longer than an hour, at a time
TAKE BREAKS
Don’t be ashamed to take off your shoes for a few minutes during the day, give them a chance to breathe and stretch to allow for blood circulation

FOOT MASSAGE
At the end of the day, roll a golf ball on the bottom of your feet to promote movement and strengthen the small muscles of your feet, two things that don’t happen when you’re wearing heels.
