Papa: Bia hia (come here).

Son: Papa...I was reading in the room.

Papa: (with a sly smile) sit down here.
Achomi gwa unu okwu n'uka(I want to
have some words with two of you)

Son & daughter: (looking bewildered)

Papa: (clears throat)Ehen...Ginikandu..what
did you say you want to be in the future?

Son: Papa..I have big dreams o..I want to own
the biggest poultry farm in the world. I
will produce the best breeds of chicken...i
will.....(papa looks at him with the eyes of
the ancestors and he kept mute)....

Papa: Njideka...nnenna ya..what do you want
          to be in the future?

Njideka: Papa..I want to be a fashion designer.
I want to create a global brand with a
local content...I will.. (Papa looks at her
with the eyes of amadioha and calls out
          his wife)

Papa: Obidiya! Obidiya!! Obid.....!!

Mama: Nna anyi! nna anyi! anam'abia!(i'm
          coming)....
          (Wife enters the sitting room)

Mama: Nna anyi...

Papa: Obidiya...listen to your children.
Ginikandu what did you say you want to
           be??

Son:  Papa.... I want to be a renowned
Commercial farmer. I want to have a big
         poultry...I wan...t....
(Papa cuts in...turns to his wife)

Papa: Obidiya! Whose sperm did you say he
came from?? So you want to take over
          my poverty abi? Ginikandu!

Son: Yes papa.

Papa: What would you ever farm, that you will
farm better than me? So this is how you
want to become useless to me & your
mother okwa ya? Look at this bastard!
(Mama is looking sober...almost crying...Papa continues).
Ginikandu! Look at our whole village,
we have lost almost all our lands to the
people of umuchakara because there is
no single lawyer in our whole kindred.

"Why not become a lawyer and reclaim
our lands, then you can have enough
lands to do your poultry farming".(That
           is devilish wisdom talking)

           Look at Ibekwe's family.........He has
produced two doctors and one engineer.
Does he have two heads? See my son..
You cannot be wiser than your father. I
have seen life..that is why I am sending
you to school, so that you can get a
lucrative degree and have a "white collar'
           Job.

Mama: Ginikandu my son...what your father is
saying is true. We are your parents and
we can not lie to you. We want the best
for you...and that is why you should be a
lawyer, so that you can have a good job
and " help our community" reclaim our
           lands. Did you hear me?

Ginikandu: (Obviously has been mentally
           restructured).  Yes mama.

Papa: Njideka..you said you want to sew
Cloth ...I chori me fashion.(you want to
         do fashion design).
You must be a tactical idiot...infact say...
          "I am a tactical idiot"!

Njideka: (keeps mute)

Papa: Amadioha will close that your smelly
mouth and make you deaf and dumb
forever...if you don't open that mouth.

          C'mon! Say "I am a tactical idiot"!.

Daughter: " I am a tactical idiot".

Papa: C'mon say it louder.."I am a tactical idiot'

Daughter: "I am a tactical idiot"!

Papa: good!
           Now listen to me attentively.Your
mother had been sewing cloth even
before I married her. This is our
eighteenth year of marriage and we
have been struggling to eat. So this is
how you will take care of us in our old
age and your little siblings playing
           outside abi?

See let me tell you..you are a woman
and whether you like it or not, you must
end up in the kitchen. Rich men like to
marry teachers or nurses because they
can take care of the home...so you will
go to the college of Education and
become a good teacher so that you will
marry early and start taking care of your
          mother.

Mama: Nne m...Adaobi m. So you don't want
to take care of your mother? See...go to
school and marry a big man, then you
wear any fashion designer in the world.
Is it not true? Nna anyi...

Papa: Owu eziokwu now...(it is true now).
           Njideka ..my daughter...isn't your mother
           speaking the truth?..

Daughter: (obviously mentally restructured)
           Yes papa.

(TO BE CONTINUED).

N.B.
I wrote the article (HOW THE AFRICAN CHILD IS PROGRAMMED FOR FAILURE) after I had a conversation with one of my students.
(You can go through my timeline and read it up)
She was apparently downcast. She is currently studying Nursing against her own volition. She is very good at painting & sculpture and I really felt bad because her skills are dying by the day.

I spoke with her and told her never to stop painting. If "Nursing" will disturb your painting, then Paint indeed!. There are some things that are priceless and the sense of accomplishment tops the list.

Millions of dreams of the African child has been annihilated because of personal aggrandizement by the African parent.

Every African child has potentials which are in alignment with their own destiny and until these latent potentials are harnessed deliberately by the African parent, there can NEVER be any meaningful development in this part of the sub Saharan Africa.

Let us understand that times have changed! "There is nothing like white collar jobs". It is called corporate slavery.
Teach your children how to be Producers and not consumers. Let them understand the intricacies of Job creation and not Job seeking.

"Never allow your schooling to disturb your Education".
