Uniport graduate and political analyst, Dr. Emmanuel John took to his facebook page today, to drop this writeup on the electoral crisis allegedly ravaging the oil rich Rivers state.
He wrote....
The last time I witnesses this magnitude of societal terrorism and voter intimidation in the name of election was in 2003. Sir Dr Peter Odili was seeking a second term alongside OBJ and Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Port Harcourt was heavily militarized and the militants, of those days, were in charge. 2007 and 2011 were a lot more better. 2015 was charged but the atmosphere was tempered by the calm (yes even in the face of despair-calm) mien of a Goodluck Jonathan.
The PDP was in charge and Rivers State was charged. The APC cried foul. Before then the APC as party approached the courts and obtain judgement declaring it illegal to use the military for elections. This was a direct fallout of the Ayo Fayose demystification of the Tinubu mythological grip of the South West.
Fast forward to 2016. Undoubtedly, CRA is in charge. And rightly so. Even his traducers agree he deserves the privileges he enjoys. Well I am told, euphemistically speaking, that he has already been allegedly compensated with two oil wells so to speak..i.e NDDC and NIMASA with his boys (or sorry and lady) posted there as gatekeepers. Please don't begrudge him.
Some may argue that even Buhari did not do for himself the much Amaechi did for him. Perhaps only Tinubu is qualified to be in the same class as Amaechi. But that is a matter for another day.
The discuss for today is about elections. In the last nine days, true to his nature, the minister of transport has not made any pretence about his mission in Rivers state. Not that he must, necessarily, present a mission whenever he steps foot in PH. Far from it. Afterall he is Rivers. And just months ago he was the first citizen of the state and deserves honour. But the man whom his followers like to refer to as the Lion of the Niger Delta (I wonder why Lion and not the shark or whale of the Niger Delta. At least some sea creature) made it clear that winning the re-run elections was his mission. He visited more radio stations in the last one week than a couple of ministers put together, has done in the last 6 months.
Just for the elections. He competed gallantly with the incumbent Governor Wike on who deserves the medal for making the most inflammatory comments. In fact when news filtered in that Governor Wike had apologised on radio as regards some uncomplimentary comments he had made about CRA, the supporters of the APC leader went wild in Jubilation.
All over facebook headlines like,"WIKE BOWS BEFORE THE LION" emerged. It perhaps sent no signal that it was time their principal becomes a gentleman. On one occassion he was even reported to have walked out on a live radio programme anchor for asking daring questions.
Today is Sunday. The elections have come but they are not gone. For some families they may never go. At least 7 persons were reportedly killed. Wike's SA I hear is in custody for moving cash and military uniforms on election day. His SSG was reportedly whisked away by men of the Nigerian Army. Some LGAs have reportedly been one and lost. The results on social media does not look too good for the broom carriers. The umbrella may be old but it appears it is still strong. But this are only but social media results.
Nevertheless I have a message for Rt Hon Amaechi. I hope APC wins all the seat and after that your boys immediately impeach Wike. Anything short of the above would be failure. Remember how you have boasted that Wike is Governor only because he used the Army and Police to intimidate voters and rig the elections. Now you had and you still have the Army and Police at your beck and call.
Dear CRA, remember how you wailed about Mbu and the brigade commander of Bori camp? Now you act in the very same manner you complained about. As pictures and videos of how you stormed Mile one Police Station to free an alleged election rigger surface and as contacts who live a few block away from that station confirm that indeed you were there in spirit and in person, I can only but shake my head in disappointment. And I ask,"SO YOU ARE ONE OF THEM?". Has your friend, Professor Wole Soyinka seen any of these? My last words is you better win all the 22 RSHA,12 HOR and 3 senate seats otherwise...Hmmmmmm. Have a nice day sir. One last thing, I do not usually club but can I pls be your guest at the nite club you plan to attend at Wike's village tonight?
