“I Wasn’t forced Into Stand-up Comedy, By Poverty” Comedian Ayanfe Cries Out…


Some of you think that Abel Oladokun Asogba, popularly known as Ayanfe, became a stand-up comedian due to poverty, but the young man has come out to refute the gossip as baseless.
Ayanfe is a graduate of Economics and Social Studies, in a recent interview with The Nation, explained that he joined stand-up comedy due to passion and love for the job and also disclosed that Seyilaw is his mentor in the business.
According to him: “I started off as an MC; and along the line, I realized that I could be funny. I guess I am just being myself. No situation pushed me to it. I just felt I am going on course and it has been going on smooth”.
He continued: “An MC is the one who brings attention to an event; he stabilises an event and he is the main person who drives an event. But a comedian is one who that brings a comic relief to the audience”.
He further explained that his sojourn in the entertainment industry, started from his church.”Whenever they want to do an event, I would go there to compere, so it became part of me. I have always liked to be on the microphone either playing or just talking. Being a comedian and compere is not a very big task to me”.
