Omubo Pepple Dabota (Uniport Student & Fecamds Welfare Sec. 1) Speaks On The Forthcoming Fecamds Medical Outreach

In a recent interview with Campus Watch Magazine, Omubo Pepple Dabota, a final year Nursing student of the University of Port Harcourt, and the Welfare Secretary 1 of the Federation of Catholic Medical & Dental Students (Fecamds), Uniport chapter; discussed with the Editor on the benefits of their forthcoming medical outreach holding from (1st-3rd July, 2014); the fruits of previous outreaches and on why the public should maximize the opportunity offered by the forthcoming medical outreach… Enjoy it after the cut…

On what really informed the idea of having a medical outreach by Fecamds: Dabota said: “As medical students, we know the benefits of being in good health, so we organize outreaches to enlighten the public”
Recounting the benefit(s) of previous outreach: Dabby explained: “During outreaches, we check basic health parameters, like blood pressure, glucose level etc… these parameters give us basic information about the state of health of the clients. With the parameters we get; we tend to advise and give health education to individuals. So they tend to know about good oral hygiene, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, HIV status, blood groups etc”. She continued: “We reach out to communities. But in reaching out, we look out for communities that have little or no access to medical care. That’s our little way of contributing to humanitarian services”.
On why Fecamds Uniport is going to Mater M. Parish Rumuommasi for a medical outreach instead of enlightening and sensitizing members of the University’s host communities of Aluu, Choba & Alakahia; this brilliant finalist in the Nursing department responded: “The outreach holding at M.M Parish Rumuomasi PH, is a National Outreach organized by one of our Patrons Dr. Mrs. Tabansi, so as Fecamdsites, we are assisting our Patron in reaching out to her church”. She further stated: “But, when we organized our own outreaches it’s normally at the outskirts of Port Harcourt”.
Omubo further told the Campus Watch Editor that this forthcoming outreach is relatively different from their usual Uniport outreach, because medical practitioners from UPTH are expected to be there to provide expert medical services, and there will be special Pediatric, Ophthalmology, HIV status, Pharmacy sections; so as to ensure that the clients receive quality services as they are going to be attended to by experts and consultants in other field of practice, free of charge; which is as good as going to the hospital for general check up.
She also reaffirmed that their Patron, Dr. Mrs. Tabansi is the chief sponsor of the outreach, while Fecamds Uniport provides man power assistance to ensure the success of the exercise.
Finally, this beautiful damsel who is also part of the ever conquering Team Uniport advised the general public to take their health very important and to maximize this golden opportunity offered by Fecamds medical outreach to gain quality medical care as the organization is posited to give their best to the public.
