In what seemed to be a long awaited opportunity to clear the air on the speculations making the rounds that she is in love with one of the finest Dudes in Uniport and a co-founder of Gist Uniport Media, popularly known as Majid, the current Miss NFCS Uniport, Mercy Eze-Awaji, in an exclusive interview with Trendy Gist, debunked such speculations as baseless and unfounded; maintaining that the handsome Dude Majid is just her friend and nothing more.
Ø For the sake of this interview, could you
please introduce yourself to me?
Ok! I am Mercy Eze-Awaji and I hail
from Imo state…currently in my 200 level, studying Accounting in the University
of Port Harcourt.
Ø How was growing up like...as in your
childhood experience?
Growing up was fun for me. My two
brothers and two sisters made it a period to be remembered. We quarreled,
played, talked, laughed, studied and did practically everything together. Our
parents taught us how to always look out for each other and I think that did stick
with us till now.
Ø How did you emerge Miss NFCS? How comes the
idea of contesting for the crown?
At this point, I would have said
my personality, smile, intelligence, beauty blah blah blah but it was not all
these that helped me take the crown home…it was actually my willingness to take
corrections and improve on myself. I saw the pageantry as an avenue to learn
and it helped me to win the crown and improve on myself, and to become the new
ME!!!
Contesting for the pageantry was
never my plan at all but after much conviction from friends, I decided to give
it a try; and that was how I found myself in front of an audience in various
attires...lol
Ø How does it feel to be crowned winner?
It feels really good, although,
it comes with a lot of responsibilities but with the help of God, the Mr. NFCS
and all others I know we can do it...
Ø What pet projects are you embarking on?
I have a lot of projects in mind.
I am a web designer (still learning though), so with the help of a very good
friend who also designs websites am planning on creating an NFCS ‘App’ to make
work easier and faster for them and by the grace of God it should be ready by
the end of the year. I am also planning seminars and forums basically for youth
empowerment and also to influence people's spiritual life positively and God
willing many other projects...
Ø How do you juggle pageantry with your
academics?
One thing I believe or more like
one thing I know is that everything is achievable…All it takes is to plan
towards it…it wasn’t so difficult to combine both activities. All I did was to
plan and partition my time to suit my plan and guess what? THAT WORKED!!!
Ø How would you describe your style? And if I
may ask...how do you keep fit?
REAL!..yh that’s the word..I am
very original..lol..don’t mind silly me..bottom line is that I like to keep it
simple...hmmm keeping fit ummm, I jog at least twice a week, I do some
stretches and also diet but ehh it is really hard to stay faithful to my diet
when cornflakes is still sold in the market..shh..That was my secret.
Ø Do you share the minority perception that a
pageant beauty must sleep her way to take the crown?
#laughs…let me rephrase that, they actually sleep their
way to the bottom. Girls that do this don’t end up getting the crown but
I believe that every fair pageantry contest should not allow such misconduct.
Ø Was Miss NFCS contest your first experience
of participating in a beauty contest, and if it was, what are the qualities
that helped you to win?
Yes! Yes!! Yes!! It was my first…growing
up I used to be kind of a ‘bloke’ and didn’t fancy all the lady-like stuffs…so I
never really tried contesting for any pageantry contest…Like I said earlier on,
it was my devotion to making corrections and improving myself that made me
win...
Ø Talking about pageant organizers reportedly
sleeping with models...in your case was there anything like that?
No! Not at all! That never happened,
our organizers were just devoted to training us and they never made advances at
any one.
Ø There's this speculation making the rounds
that you are dating one of the most handsome students in Uniport...popularly
called Majid. How true is that?
O my!! That speculation is very
very wrong. I am not dating Majid. The truth is that we are not dating and we weren’t
dating. Before or now…we are just friends. The speculation about us dating is
false.
Ø Most people say pageantry is always bias...
In your case what do you think?
I don’t think they were bias at
all...There was no sentiment or whatever. They cautioned who needed to be
cautioned and complimented those that deserved compliments.
Ø What advice would you give to upcoming
models?
To models try to be the
best at what you do. Never sleep with anyone that promises you success or
victory. Just try to improve on yourself and you would be surprised as to how
high you would fly.
You would have told us you want to make this guy a celebrity. Shm! Who's Majid to dominate headline? You are fond of promoting some small boys and gals
