Trendy Gist Blog has
reliably gathered that the Rivers State Government led by Governor Nyesom Wike
has urged the management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital,
UPTH, to carry out a full scale investigation into the incidents that led to
the death of a 200 level student of Theatre Art, Miss Kelechi Precious.
It would be recalled
that the death of the undergraduate student of Uniport, compelled the students
of this great institution to occupy the streets of Port Harcourt in demonstration
of their anger.
A statement,
yesterday, by the media office of the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Ipalibo
Banigo by her media secretary, Mr. Paul Damgbor, urged the management of UPTH
to investigate the death of the student and punish those found wanting to avoid
future reoccurrence.
Dr. Banigo who
condoled with the management and students of UPTH, and family of the girl for
the untimely demise, described the death as unfortunate.
She said that the incident
was a wake up call to hospital authorities, nurses and doctors in both public
and private sectors to be alive to their responsibilities to their patients,
calling on medical practitioners to always show compassion in their profession.
Banigo also enjoined
the students of Uniport to maintain calm and desist from taking laws into their
hands.
Meanwhile, the
Management of UPTH has said it had already commenced investigation into the
events that led to the death of the student.
