This was the most anticipated clash of the weekend in the English Premier league. The Leaders versus the third place team in the league. Many saw it as the match where the Title race could be won and lost. And the it lived up to the hype because from the blast of the kickoff whistle both teams went for the kill with entertaining end to end football.
The pace of Leicester City's attack versus the panache and creativity of Arsenal's midfield. But it was striker Jamie Vardy who broke the deadlock in the dying minutes of the first half from a hotly debated penalty kick awarded after he stumbled into Nacho Monreal's outstretched leg, sending Petr Cech the wrong way while converting the penalty kick and the foxes went into half time break on the high.
Second half saw resumed hostilities between the two teams but the match took a turn around when Leicester city's defender Simpson was given his Marching orders around the 54th minute for a second yellow card offence by referee Martin Atkinson reducing the foxes to ten men for the remainder of the game. Leicester City defended doggedly to preserve their lead but it was broken down by substitute Walcott who equalized on the 70th minute with a side foot finish from Olivier Giroud's knock down.
This set up a frantic final 20 minutes as the home team looked to make full use of their numeral superiority on the pitch to get the all important second goal but goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel did well to save a close range effort from Giroud and some other smart saves to keep Leicester alive in the game.
But in the closing seconds of the game amid the tension all around the Emirates Stadium and virtually the last action of the game substitute Danny Welbeck just returned from injury flicked home Mesut Ozil's free kick to send the home fans into Frenzy.
Surely Leicester will feel hard done by the result considering that they were actually having the upper hand just before the red card incident while Arsenal will take this result as a revival of their title hopes in a season that have seen the other big guns in the league fail to turn up to the party.
A good game of football to the neutrals who saw it and this defeat takes nothing away from Leicester City's incredible performance this season, this defeat still leaves them top of the table but with just two points clear of Tottenham and Arsenal in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
