The Single Guy Diary (Part Three)
Yah! The SINGLE GUY’S DIARY IS
BACK! Chronciled by BY MICHAEL AGENE. Sorry for keeping you waiting….it wasn’t
deliberate…Enjoy the writeup after the cut…
I’ve had a couple hilarious teenage
fantasies about how to meet your predestined lover; last night was one of
those. It might not be as exact as I’d imagined but it was pretty close. Come
to think of it, those kinds of thing only happen in the movies or don’t you
think so?...
To me, it was like a déjà vu;
those magical 10secs on our knees; of seeing our blood fuse together; of
hearing the nightingale-like voice saying “Ouch! I’m so sorry”; of seeing her
bold apocalyptic eyes possessing all of me. Those were the best 10secs I’ve had
my entire life, well, for now. I could give my brand new CRV for a replay (not
kidding).
Neil couldn’t believe what he saw
as we’ve talked and joked over those fantasies of mine. To better prove myself
capable enough, I showed him Anabel’s business card.
“Dude, I told you this was it,
that I was ready!” I bragged.
He kinda chuckled, tried to gain
a few points to attack my perception of last night and then came up with “You
know she won’t be the one to pick that number on her business card, right?”
That statement hit me on the head
like a bowl of Ice. I quickly grabbed my phone and hurriedly typed on the
number. True to Neil’s, the first words I heard were “Good morning, this is
Ana-Clothiers”. I hung up as fast as I could and dialed the second number on
the card.
“Hi. This is Pearl from
Ana-Clothiers. How may I help you today?”
I couldn’t believe after those
magical few seconds we shared, Anabel just could not give me her personal
number, I yelled. Neil gave me a pat on the back and was like “Dude, you’re
taking this too far. For God’s sake, that was just some of those things that
happen in a party. Besides, if a lady is really into you, she gives you her BB
Pin or personal number on the spot and not some business card (he stressed that
loudly)”
The only regret I have now is
that I never gave her any of my contacts. At least she would have called, I
encouraged myself. Then, like a sparkling flash of inspiration, I grabbed my
phone again and dialed the last number.
“Hi Pearl, this is Duke. I’ve
been following your brand for some time now and would love to partner with you
guys for a much bigger expansion” I said in a cool and well calculated voice.
“We appreciate that sir. Please
hold on, let me forward the call to our marketing department”.
“No, no, no… I don’t think
there’s a need for that. Just give me your boss’ phone number so I discuss with
her personally” I interrupted.
“Hmm…I’m sorry we don’t do that
sir but our marketing rep is ready to speak with you, if you don’t mind”
I paused in disappointment for a
second and just said “OK!”
Eventually, they both took their
stand on not releasing their boss’ phone number as they were capable of
discussing any business deal I might have.
As I hung up again in total
disappointment, Sophie’s call entered and in a cold voice and very unlike her,
I heard “Duke, there’s something I want us to talk about. I’d come over after
work. Please take good care of you k” she ended without even giving me a chance
to say a word.
As I still pondered my
unfortunate ‘exaggerated magical last night’ and what Sophie wants us to talk
about, I switched on the TV to watch a replay of Arsenal’s victory match with
Liverpool while Neil went off to work.
That could make me feel better, I
thought.
