The Social Media & the Culture of Pornography (Part B)

Continuation from (Part A). Read (Part A HERE)
Again, we are not comfortable with the increasing cases of rape and unwanted pregnancies in our society; however, it will be nice to call to mind the damage these pornographic materials are doing to the human mind which is usually translated in lashing mayhem on females. Could it possible that the youths would have abnegated themselves of these immoralities, if they had not been fed, brainwashed and bamboozled with unnecessary nude images? I guess YES!

The pollution of the social media with pornographic images and videos has demonstrated the level of immorality in the society and a negative pointer to more negativity in the future. It has led to a denigration of the human person especially females who are supposed to be treasured as jewels. It is just abominable to tantalize teenagers with such scenes of nudity given the catastrophic effect of such images and videos on the upbringing of youngsters. Stories abound where sex depicting videos brought careers of our young lads to abrupt end. Of course, these are calamities that could have been averted if necessary measures are adopted to tame the scourge of nudity.
If we must have the society all of us dream of, all hands must be on deck to checkmate the proliferation of blog sites created with the sole aim of promoting nudity and championing the spread of sex tapes and raunchy videos. Little wonder, a social writer Tofarati Ige called on parents not to allow their children watch Davido’s latest music video: “Fans Mi”, because according to her, the video is nothing more than a negation of morality. She succinctly accused the pop star David Adeleke popularly known as Davido of pushing the boundaries of decency in his latest music video featuring Meek Mill, even though music videos nowadays have been reduced to mere displays of scantily dressed ladies shaking their butts, and glorification of drunkenness.
Government should come up with legislation to regulate the on-going madness else, our youths may not survive the looming onslaught and morality maybe extinct in our future generations. There’s need for a paradigm shift to regulate the unwholesome showcasing of erotic images all in the name of social media. Time for action is NOW!!!
